John Crane Introduces New Fiberglass Sucker Rod Designed To Increase Oil Well Production Output, Reduce Operation Downtime and Cut Energy Cost

CHICAGO (July 16, 2015) – John Crane today introduced the Series 200, the next generation of fiberglass sucker rod that increases production output, improves load strength and reduces lifting costs for oil producers.

“Oil producers today are under tremendous pressure to improve the efficiency of their operations,” said Ruben Alvarez, vice president and general manager of John Crane’s upstream business. “John Crane’s Series 200 fiberglass sucker rod is a significant technology advancement that allows producers to improve production efficiency of existing wells and cut their capital and operating costs at the same time.”

The next generation fiberglass sucker rod provides producers added flexibility, particularly in more challenging well conditions such as deeper wells with higher load requirements or corrosive conditions. The corrosion-resistant rod provides an average working load that is at least 25 percent higher than all other available fiberglass rod alternatives.

The Series 200 minimizes costly unplanned downtime with its increased ability to remove stuck pumps with a one-time pull load capacity that is at least 30 percent higher than other alternatives. It also facilitates easier and faster removal of rod strings due to a predictive end fitting failure mode at the connecting pin that alleviates fiberglass splintering and broom-sticking.

Series 200 uses the same materials and API-standard connections as previous generations of fiberglass sucker rods, making it easier for producers to adopt this new technology.
