Building a Path Toward Energy Transition | John Crane

Building a Path Toward Energy Transition

Achieving the ambitious net zero carbon goals to combat climate change requires significant emissions reduction in hard-to-abate end markets. Low-carbon hydrogen represents a viable solution that can lower carbon emissions across refining, chemical, steel, heavy-duty transport and other sectors.

At John Crane, we believe that all sources of low-carbon hydrogen production should be deployed. This includes hydrogen produced through electrolysis powered by renewables and nuclear energy and traditional natural gas reforming technologies retrofitted with carbon capture solutions.

However, producing hydrogen is not enough. Investing in infrastructure that transports hydrogen (and alternative energy carriers such as ammonia) is critical to the successful build-out of the ecosystem. New enabling technologies are paramount to making this happen. That is why at John Crane, we are making important investments into new hydrogen sealing, filtration, digital solutions and services technologies to support the industry in achieving its ambitious hydrogen roadmaps.

Partnerships

Partnering with Hydrogen Europe to support a carbon neutral economy

John Crane has joined Hydrogen Europe to support the development of hydrogen technologies, standards and policies, and the global hydrogen ecosystem. This will allow us the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded companies on new demonstration projects, provide support in the development of state-of-the-art hydrogen technologies and the creation of hydrogen standards and policies, and accelerate the development of the overall hydrogen ecosystem in Europe and around the world.

Joining Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative to Support Global Methane Emissions Reduction and a Net-zero Carbon Emission Future

Incubated by the OGCI and its member companies, the Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative was launched in early 2022 to rethink how the oil and gas industry approaches methane emissions and its harmful effects on the environment. This initiative recognizes that virtually all methane emissions from the industry can and should be avoided. Supporting companies like John Crane who join the initiative strive to have a positive influence on reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas industry and agree to do what it takes to reach near-zero methane emissions in their operations, reporting transparently, and supporting the implementation of sound regulations.
